+The risk of electrical surge, either through the direct power source or from a static discharge, is one of the leading contributors to computer failure.  All computers and related equipment owned by PDG will be powered only through the approved surge protective equipment provided by the IT Department.  This protective equipment is to be a direct connection from a power source to the computer with no additional extensions or modifications.
 +
+Only computers and the peripheral devices associated with that computer will share a protective device.  Radios,  electric  pencil  sharpeners  or  other  devices  will  use a separate connection  or  power source.  Electronic equipment that may give off electrical interference, or  “noise,”  should be  kept a sufficient distance away from computer equipment so as not to effect the performance or  operation of the equipment.
 +
+Although surge protective devices may be equipped with a power on/off switch, this switch is not to be used as a substitute for the power on/off switches located on the computer, monitor or other equipment.
