+By default, the local hard drive of a computer is represented by a C:>.  This designates a drive located in your machine that only a user of your machine has access to.  Files that are used in conducting the business of the firm should not be permanently stored on the C:> drive  because a backup does not automatically occur and retrieval of deleted files is often impossible.
 +
+A designation of D:> or E:> will normally be used to represent a CD-rom drive, DVD drive, tape drive or an additional hard drive on your local computer.
 +
+Other drives and drive designations may be available to access various programs or file storage locations.  Some drive letter designations may be established as shortcuts to directories or subdirectories on network drives.
